The members of Volunteers for Springfield Park celebrate the planting of a new Cherry grove in the park.
On April 9th, 2025, The Volunteers for Springfield Park and the Forestry Department planted several new trees in Springfield Park. It was the vision of our President, Gregory L. Hudson, to have a Cherry Blossom Grove in the park. He was instrumental in meeting with the Parks and Forestry Department to get the trees planted. When in bloom, these trees will create a beautiful Cherry Grove along 184th Street and 146th Terrace. This is the first of many more collaborations with the Forestry Department to continue the park’s beautification.
Springfield Park, Inc. volunteers will dedicate this area as a Veterans Memorial, paying tribute to those who served our country and gave their lives to protect its citizens. We hope those visiting the park will appreciate the efforts made to keep the park beautiful and respect this area.
Acknowledging Our Supporters
Special thanks go to those incredible individuals who made it possible to have the trees planted.
- The NYC Parks Department and Forestry Department were instrumental in starting the project. We are also grateful for the quick turnaround in planting the trees. We hope to see them bloom shortly. Forestry will continue to oversee its growth until next year, when it will become the full responsibility of volunteers.
- To our Councilwoman Selvena Brooks-Powers for her continued vision and support of the community and her constituents. She participated in every park meeting and addressed our concerns and needs.
