It’s Your Park Day 2025

By Fay D. Hill

The Springfield Gardens community came out in full force to help maintain their park.

Volunteers for Springfield Park, Inc. held their 2025 “It’s My Park Day” clean-up on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 pm.
This past Saturday, October 18, 2025, at our last “It’s My Park Day” for 2025, we had the pleasure of our local students who attend Christ the King Church, located on Farmers Boulevard, headed by their student leader, Tiffany Sampson, and a few of our local regular volunteers. We planted daffodils and mums, raked leaves, and restored our flower beds.

The time scheduled for our cleanup was supposed to end at 2:00 pm, but the students had such a wonderful time, they stayed until 3:30 pm.
Volunteers for Springfield Park, Inc., served breakfast and later had pizza for our volunteers at our park clean-up. Each student often receives a community service certificate for the hours they spent cleaning the park, which they can put on their resumes for college and work.

Volunteers for Springfield Park, Inc., will continue to take care of our park as we reach out to the community to volunteer their time in keeping it beautiful and a welcome place for present and future generations. Volunteers for Springfield Park, Inc., for over seven years have hosted several “It’s My Park Day” events at Springfield Park, with the support of our former councilman, Donovan Richards (now our Queens Borough President), and now our councilwoman, Selvena Brooks-Powers.

We have reached out to local schools and the community at large to encourage them to volunteer their time and energy to improve the environment and keep their neighborhoods clean, enhancing the quality of life in Springfield Gardens. We have had several students from the Kiwanis Key Clubbers, Kiwanis Club of Jamaica, in the past, and a few local students from the community who have participated in our many park cleanups. One should take a stroll to watch the foliage change and the gorgeous birds as they migrate south for the winter, and enjoy the park in Springfield.
