Spring Cleanup & Planting 2026
Park Beautification
Stacey Osbourne
On Saturday, April 18, 2026, Volunteers for Springfield Park hosted a successful park cleanup at Springfield Park, bringing together approximately 25 dedicated participants. Of those in attendance, about 20 were enthusiastic students, joined by a group of committed adult volunteers.
Despite a slightly chilly breeze, the day was bright and sunny, perfect for giving back to the community. Volunteers focused their efforts on revitalizing two large planting beds near the Park House. The students worked diligently to remove layers of fallen leaves, plant beautiful perennials, and spread fresh mulch to enhance the space’s appearance and health.
We were grateful for the support of two Parks Department employees who assisted throughout the cleanup. Nearby, lawn maintenance was also underway, with crews mowing adjacent areas, adding a bit of dust to the day but also serving as a reminder of the ongoing care the park receives.
A peaceful highlight of the day was watching a visitor skillfully fly a large, colorful kite near the lake, adding a serene and uplifting backdrop to the event. On a Saturday, the park was relatively quiet, allowing volunteers to fully focus on their work and enjoy the surroundings.
After completing the cleanup, students gathered to enjoy snacks and water, and the day concluded with a group photo to capture the spirit of teamwork and community pride.
Thank you to everyone who came out to support and help keep Springfield Park clean and beautiful!
