The three Brooklyn-born Dunning sisters, better known by their musical moniker, The Legendary Ladies of SKYY, have been kicking out the soul and disco jams since the 1970s. The storied radio host and Brooklyn native, DJ Felix Hernandez, whose accolades include shaping the classic Rhythm Revue program and dance party, will also be lighting up the stage.

Featuring pre-show freestyle dance workshop with Theresa Lavington, 6pm.

Movies Under the Stars: Moana

From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes “Moana,” a sweeping, CG-animated feature film about an adventurous teenager who is inspired to leave the safety and security of her island on a daring journey to save her people. Inexplicably drawn to the ocean, Moana (voice of Auli?i Cravalho) convinces the mighty demigod Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson) to join her mission, and he reluctantly helps her become a wayfinder like her ancestors who sailed before her. Together, they voyage across the open ocean on an action-packed adventure, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills her quest and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity.

You should arrive before 8:00 p.m. to get your spot. Feel free to bring a blanket to sit on; there will be a limited supply of chairs available. Bottled water is OK, but no glass. Reservations are not taken; space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. All are welcome!

New York has long been an epicenter of dancehall, especially for showcasing rising artists. Kranium, a young Queens resident, is one of the most adept dancehall artists currently making waves, and is the force behind the megasmash “Nobody Has to Know.” At this show, he’s joined by the dexterous spinner DJ Polish, and longtime producer duo, Federation Sound, who have collaborated with Sean Paul and Shaggy, among many others.

Featuring The Big Good Wolf performance from the CityParks PuppetMobile, 4pm.

Long Island’s MC duo, EPMD, were always up front about their intentions. Their name is an acronym for “Erick and Parrish Making Dollars.” But as time went on, the duo became undeniable influences in the burgeoning hip-hop scene, combining masterful sampling with sophisticated wordplay. They’re joined by DJ Sylk, a Queens native who’s been a mainstay at Sound Factory, China Club, and many others.

Ralph McDaniels Soul Jam

Tabou Combo / Lakou Mizik

Tabou Combo was founded in Petion-Ville by the Chancy brothers in late-1960s Haiti, but the self-proclaimed “ambassadors of konpa” have taken their style of Haitian dance music around the world since their move to Brooklyn in 1971.
